half way through a Leopardi rewrite
\nDavid Rees came to me in a vision
\nmanning a mobile karaoke booth
\nthat featured sparkling astral projections
\nof one Pan\u2019s person after another
\nin the lockdown lukewarm London night
\nI nearly spilt my tsai in the abyss
\n& spasmed to a Francoise Hardy song
\nso I knew it was time to reload with
\nStone\u2019s ginger wine & an Aldi speyside
\nsingle malt loaf pressed against each ear
\nthen head along the path up through Braichmelyn
\n(which certain locals say is not called that)
\nemerge upon a gorse shelf in the sky<\/p>\n

under the sign of the blue square halo
\nthe river of death jogs on
\nI think it\u2019s in E?
\nmost of the air we breathe is memory
\na picnic & swim on Ynys Llanddwyn<\/p>\n

a bit of Polish pork loin from Llandudno<\/p>\n

over a flask of tea we remembered
\nBlake said trees were the imagination<\/p>\n

& even in Venice
\nCanticles are not a breakfast cereal<\/p>\n

like the small penguins of Tasmania
\nwe\u2019ve undergone a catastrophic moult<\/p>\n

we\u2019re going home
\nwe\u2019re dirty boppers<\/p>\n

Talking Heads said she was moving into
\nthe universe moving this way & that
\n& she was she was riding an NSU Quickly
\ndown the Cowley Road at 4 in the morning
\nshe was skating along the Brighton promenade
\nshe was standing on the ferry cross the Mersey
\nshe was changing trains at Gard du Nord
\nshe was boarding Metro A at Anagnina
\nshe was catching that San Giovanni tram
\nshe was leaving from Sch\u00f6nefeld Airport
\nDave\u2019s calling out for his telescopic de Kooning mop
\n& some of that krunchy nut yellow
\nhe sometimes puts in people\u2019s eyes & lamps<\/p>\n

I believe it was your man Corcoran
\nwho introduced me to Caitlin Canty
\nwho as it happens is performing now
\nin so far as that has any meaning
\nas we gingerly entered the dark halls
\nof the Covid & Rhubarb Triangle
\nas if it were the 700th time
\nour old red hats still bobbing in the gloaming
\nI love a bit of rustling in the morning
\nuncovering the long pink stalk before
\nit softens into nothing but its soul
\nO rosy & delicate translucent blob
\nchillin\u2019 in the porridge\u2019s warm dimple
\nCaitlin\u2019s singing get up get up get up<\/p>\n

the venue resembled a Weatherspoons
\ncollaged onto an Amazon warehouse
\nqueues extending back as far as Dover
\nwhat with the self-imposed staff shortages
\nnone of the punters still possessed a nose<\/span>
\nhaving cut them off to spite their faces<\/span>
\ninto which they now decanted lager<\/span>
\nwashed down with lager for eternity<\/span>
\nTranscendental \u00c9tude Opus fuck knows
\nthe one where Puck & an entourage of
\npissed Will-o\u2019-the-Whisps trash the beach again
\nyou still can\u2019t move for rancid troubadours<\/span>
\nin rusty vans held together with Rizlas<\/span>
\nplaying anti-vax medleys on a tongue drum<\/span>
\nDave wipes something nasty off his Pan pipe
\n& pastes another nymph onto the night<\/p>\n
