The Canalchemy Project was initiated by poet Steven Hitchins in 2017, in collaboration with other poets and artists. It involved walking sections of the whole length of the Merthyr to Cardiff canal (now largely defunct and buried under the A470 and new urban developments in Cardiff and beyond), performing actions and readings along the way. For Lyndon Davies, the first fruits of the project were a series of rough-and-ready poetic improvisations in response to the changing locations and shifting thought patterns of the journey and these were gathered together into a pamphlet called Canalchemy: The Materials (2019). The current collection represents a complete rewriting and rethinking of that original raw material, incorporating new poems and images, indicating contexts, eradicating wilful eccentricities, with a view to clarifying and extending emergent themes and examining them in greater depth.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
